Festival History
Monday, 09 August 2004

Cirquinox  is the Blue Mountains annual celebration of Circus. The festival was founded in 2006 by Alison Wheeler, in response to the region being home to many professional and community circus and physical theatre performers.  There were very few opportunities for them to perform locally. Cirquinox provides the opportunity for local residents to see great performances, while promoting increasing regional tourism.

Held in partnership with National Trust (NSW), Cirquinox took place for the first two years at Everglades Historic House & Garden in Leura.  In 2008, the festival relocated to The Norman Lindsay Gallery in Faulconbridge, which provides more space, and easier access for visitors from Sydney.  Cirquinox is a great fund raiser for the National Trust, and encourages visitors from near and far.

Cirquinox is a non profit community festival, auspiced by UBCAP Inc. (Upper Blue Mountains Circus Arts Project Inc.).  In 2006 2007 & 2008, Cirquinox was partly funded by the Blue Mountains City Council Cultural Partnerships Program.  The remainder of funds have come from a percentage of gate entry fees, donations from local businesses and community organizations.  In 2007 Cirquinox was also supported by Artstart funding.
